The Center for International Understanding

Center_logo2004.JPGThe Center for International Understanding (CIU) in Raleigh runs the NC in the World Program. The Center is part of The University of North Carolina and has been established since 1979.

In addition to the NC in the World Program, other programs run through the Center include;
  • The Latino Initiative
  • Global Business Networking Initiative
  • Education Policy Leaders Program

The Center's work focuses on helping North Carolina policy leaders and educators address international issues affecting our state. Through study abroad and cross-cultural training in North Carolina, we build global leaders who can help guide their classrooms and communities through demographic change and global challenges.

CIU believes that directly experiencing another cultural is critical to getting along in our increasingly global society. Working with people of other cultures is as critical for middle school students as it is for business owners and elected officials.

Over the past 29 years the Center for International Understanding has taken more than 8,000 North Carolinians to 48 different countries to learn with and about other countries and cultures.
